November 10-11, 2007
Tallulah Gorge State Park
Tallulah Falls, GA
Early Saturday morning
... Georgia Power opens the flood gates. Gradually the normal 30 cfs flow increases to 500. The Tallulah
Gorge becomes alive and absolutely spectacular. It's even more spectacular on Sunday with flows between 700-800 cfs.
At 9AM, the dam operator radios the water has stabilized -- the boaters can start down. After trekking boat and gear
down the 600+ steps to the put-in, and with little warmup, the boaters meet the Class IV entrance rapid.
The November
whitewater releases at Tallulah Gorge are almost here! GCA will be hosting one of the release weekends (November 10th
and 11th, 2007).
What does this
mean to you? It means you get a chance to see the Class IV-V whitewater action first hand. All you need
to do is volunteer! There are all kinds of reasons to volunteer:
... You would like to enjoy a beautiful Fall
day in a beautiful place with beautiful people. Bring the family and make it a day -- there's lots to do at Tallulah
Gorge State Park!
... You're a beginning
or intermediate paddler and you want a taste of what lies ahead when you're ready to boat the Tallulah. See the action
first hand!
... You want to support the GCA and American Whitewater. You want to give a few hours of your time
to make this release weekend the best ever. Know that your support will help to ensure the future of the whitewater
releases at Tallulah Gorge and, who knows, maybe even open the way for more releases in the future.
Come and
join us on November 10-11 at Tallulah! Just drop me an email or call for more information.
